Forgotten Music...

Sorry - I reread my November Music post and realized I'd neglected Bruce Cockburn's Lifes Short Call Now - another under-rated but extremely well-crafted folk-rock album. Probably the only Canadian album worth purchasing in this past year...those Brits seem to be taking over my music collection again! Please correct me if I'm wrong about Canadian music but I'm not finding much these days...

You mentioned Emily Haines -- she's Candian, and you might also enjoy Metric (her regular band, more rockin' than her solo stuff).

A few of my Canadian rock favourites that you might enjoy: The Weakerthans (Reconstruction Site), Wolf Parade (listen to "Modern World"), Wintersleep, The Constantines and for a more mellow take: Raised by Swans.

Hey Jer = thanks again for the heads up on some Canadian content stuff...admittedly I was hoping you'd take the bait on that one!!! Especially after the great lead on the Silversun Pickups...but man I'm loving the Raised by Swans tracks available for a listen...

The Constantines & The Weakerthans take me back a few years but it was good to revisit their sound... admittedly its been awhile since i've heard either. I'll check out some of the other recommends!

Nikki - yeah the guy with the prettier voice...I like it after having a listen online. It's pretty simplistic, with most of the songs having a very similar sound to them but it definitely gives the album a continuity. Nice suggestion - thanks much, it may end up in my mix for the month but I'll digest it some more!

Jer - I also checked out Metric and remember hearing the Monster Hospital track on Grey's Anatomy or something - I think I like her band stuff better than the unplugged set she is doing now across Canada.

Yeah, Metric's got a fantastic sound and some great songs. It seems a bit uneven, though...lots of mediocre songs too, unfortunately.

And I can't believe I didn't include my favourite feelgood Canadian band: Tegan and Sara.

I just discovered that the Constantines had a newer album out than the one I was liking a year or two ago. One of the new songs is fantastic: Soon Enough (mp3 from Sub Pop).

Glad you're liking Raised by Swans. Very nice, mellow vibe. I'm not sure if you've ever discovered my song blog, but I've occasionally put up songs by some of the bands we're talking about here.
